Recycle Week 2020: Together We Recycle

Recycle Week is an annual celebration of recycling that’s organised by WRAP, the Waste and Resources Action Programme, of which the Rabbit Group is an active member. This year, Recycle Week takes place from 21st September and will focus on thanking the nation for their recycling efforts despite the backdrop of COVID-19 and the challenges this has caused.

Recognising the sacrifices of key workers

WRAP wants Recycle Week 2020 to acknowledge the sacrifices that key workers and citizens have made to continue to create positive change. Recycle and waste key workers have collected tirelessly throughout the pandemic. Their efforts are paying off – people are recycling more than ever. Some councils have reported a 34% increase in household recycling. At Rabbit, we’ve continued to hire skips and operate our Energy from Waste facility throughout the pandemic and have seen increases in the amount of skip hire as we’ve supported construction sites that have remained open, as well as households that took the national lockdown as an opportunity to sort or clear-out their homes and gardens.

Planning the biggest Recycle Week yet

Recycle Week 2019 was a resounding success, reaching 16 million people through digital channels alone. Iconic buildings, including the London Eye, were lit green to show their support, and an award-winning video caught the attention of social media users. What’s more, 91% of people who saw the campaign said that they recycled more year on year. More is planned for this year, enlisting more partners than ever before to maximise the reach of the campaign and galvanise the nation to recycle more of the right things, more often.

How Rabbit supports recycling waste

At Rabbit, we handle waste responsibly and are advocates for recycling more. When you hire a skip with us, we sort the contents first and recycle everything we can before using our Energy from Waste plant to generate green electricity from what remains. Not only does it save you from the sorting, but it also saves you a trip to your local recycling centre. It’s easy to book with us and arrange a collection when it’s full, or after the two-week hire period.
