Brightwell Dispensers hails 5-star service from Rabbit Group

Based in Newhaven, East Sussex, Brightwell Dispensers Ltd has been a global designer and manufacturer of innovative soap, paper and chemical dispensers and dosing systems since 1947. Quality and innovation feature at the top of this company’s values and extend not only to the products it designs and manufactures but also to all the processes involved in its operation, including waste management.

Working with responsible suppliers

Brightwell prides itself on guaranteeing its worldwide customers that it partners with responsible suppliers and began working with Rabbit Group in 2011 when Rabbit launched its trade waste service. In fact, Brightwell was one of Rabbit’s first customers for this new service.

Rabbit services eight Brightwell sites, supplying a range of waste management solutions from wheelie bins to skips and roro (roll-on, roll-off) containers. Rabbit’s commitment to working closely with clients to fulfil their waste management needs cost efficiently and effectively was evident from the start. Brightwell was looking closely at the waste it produced and how it was disposed of. Rabbit analysed the cost of replacing Brightwell’s existing FEL (front end loader) waste collections with wheelie bins. Having run a trial, all Brightwell sites were swapped over to wheelie bins as they provided not only cost effective service, but also the added convenience of taking the bins to the waste and only paying for waste collected.

Brightwell is also proud that, rather than heading straight for landfill, the waste it cannot recycle itself goes to Rabbit’s energy from waste plant.

“We have used Rabbit for several years and although probably not the cheapest, the service is 5-star, from the customer care team right through to the drivers and the standard of bins, skips and containers provided,” says Roy Foxwell, Brightwell Dispensers’ Property Manager. “Deliveries are prompt and collections have always been within the target date. Waste transfer notes are always provided and the waste goes to the incinerator or for energy recycling and not to landfill.”

Environmental certification

In May 2012, Brightwell gained the international environmental certification ISO14001, in recognition of its corporate policy to integrate environmentally-friendly processes throughout its operations.

Some of the targets achieved by the company between 2012 and 2014 were:
• reducing energy usage by 5-10%
• reducing water and gas usage by 10%
• reducing paper usage by 25%
• increasing recycling of process waste by 35%
• reducing transport between sites by 25%

Energy from waste

Rabbit’s state-of-the-art, multi-million pound energy from waste facility offers customers a near-zero-to-landfill waste service. Superior to traditional mass burn incineration, this facility enables Rabbit to divert over 60,000 tonnes of waste per year from landfill sites and generate sustainable, green electricity to power around 8,000 homes.

“It is a huge honour to work with a company like Brightwell Dispensers, which places such high value on the quality and impact of its operations,” says Duncan Barrass, Operations & Commercial Director at Rabbit Group.
