Waste Management

STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO FILLING YOUR SKIP

A SIMPLE GUIDE TO GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR SKIP HIRE WITH RABBIT

Hiring a skip should make life easier, not harder. With a bit of planning you can fit far more in than you might expect, saving you time, money and extra trips to the tip. Here is a straightforward guide to help you load your skip efficiently and safely.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO FILLING YOUR SKIP

  1. START WITH A QUICK SORT Think about what you are clearing. Is it bulky furniture, DIY offcuts, garden waste or a mix of everything? Knowing the type and volume of waste helps you choose the right skip size and makes the loading process much smoother.
  2. CHECK WHAT WE OFFER Rabbit provides a full range of skips, from small domestic sizes through to large containers for major clear outs or building projects. Each skip has different dimensions and capacities, so take a moment to look through the options and choose the one that suits your job.
  3. BOOK IN YOUR SKIP Once you know the size you need, you can book quickly online or by giving us a call. We offer flexible delivery dates and you can keep the skip for up to two weeks. If you are unsure how long the job will take, that is fine. You can arrange collection once you are ready.
  4. PICK A GOOD SPOT Place your skip somewhere easy to reach, with enough room around it to move safely. Make sure it is not blocking access to your home or vehicles. If the skip needs to go on the road, let us know and we will arrange the required permit for you.
  5. HEAVY AND FLAT ITEMS FIRST Start with flatter or heavier items at the bottom. Doors, boards, broken slabs and bricks create a solid base and make the rest of the loading easier. If you have any glass, place it carefully against the side rather than dropping it in.
  6. PACK TIGHTLY AND AVOID GAPS Think of your skip as a puzzle. By placing items neatly and keeping everything compact, you avoid wasted space. Fill smaller gaps with loose items to make the most of the capacity.
  7. USE A WHEELBARROW FOR EASE Moving waste can be tiring. A wheelbarrow makes the job far easier and helps you avoid unnecessary strain.
  8. PRIORITISE WHAT MATTERS If you realise you have more waste than expected, focus on the items you definitely want gone. You can always book another skip later if you have more projects planned.
  9. DO NOT FORGET GARDEN WASTE Branches, soil, grass and cuttings can go in your skip and often take up more space in bags than you realise. Clearing them at the same time keeps your outdoor space tidy and saves time on multiple trips to the tip.
  10. GIVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TIME You have up to 14 days, but it is worth planning your clear out so you finish before collection day. Skips can be collected any time between morning and early evening, so aim to complete loading the day before.

TOP TIPS FOR SAFE AND SMOOTH LOADING

  • Lift safely by bending your knees and keeping your back straight.
  • Ask for help with heavy or awkward items.
  • Wear sturdy footwear and gloves if needed.
  • Keep the area around the skip clear.
  • Spread heavy items evenly so the skip remains stable.
  • Never fill a skip higher than its sides, as this can be unsafe during transport.
