Plant Hire Tips

How To Run A Successful Groundworks Project

Preparation is the secret to any successful project and none more so than in the field of construction, domestic or commercial. Before anything can be built the ground must be thoroughly and properly prepared and any hold-ups or hiccups at this early stage could impact significantly on the overall success of a project, potentially delaying completion and increasing costs. Building contractors are therefore keen to work with groundworks subcontractors and plant hire suppliers that are reliable and offer quality services and equipment, to ensure that projects stay on time and on budget.

Groundworks

The term groundworks covers any work carried out to prepare surfaces for the start of construction work, including demolition, site clearance, ground improvement or compaction, investigations, substructure and ground stabilisation works, and landscaping. Landscaping may include earthworks to remodel the site and hard landscape, such as ‘black top’ surfacing of roads and car parks. These initial preparatory works will involve the site being cleared and the topsoil removed from the area that will form the footprint of the structure to be built.

Prior to starting the build, the project team will have gathered as much detailed information about the ground conditions as possible, in order to devise an efficient and easy-to-implement design and deal with any issues that may arise, to avoid incurring additional costs or delays. But as with any project, not everything can be anticipated, making it important to work with contractors and suppliers that can quickly respond to emerging situations on site.

Remove the spoil from your toil

Rabbit and Dowling provide an extensive range of plant equipment, all available with qualified operators, for both commercial and domestic clients and applications such as driveway excavation and groundworks. The company has recently provided equipment for the resurfacing of the car park at Worthing Golf Club.

Our equipment fleet consists of self-drive diggers, mini diggers, dumpers and skip loaders, excavators (micro, mini and midi-tracked 360, with 0.8 to 14 tonne capacities), dumpers (straight and swivel, with 1.5  to 6 tonne capacities), skip loaders and tracked barrows, hydraulic breakers, rollers and tracked dumpers.

Additionally, we operate a fleet of 8-wheel, self-loading grab lorries, operated by qualified and experienced drivers. These make light work of removing up to 18 tonnes of waste in a load, making them ideal for collecting and disposing of the waste you generate.
